Scarring is part of the healing process that occurs when the skin is damaged through injury. Scar tissue is composed of fibrous tissue, which is made up of collagen and other proteins, and is designed to provide strength and support to the affected area.

When the skin is injured, the body's natural response is to repair the damage by producing new tissue, which can result in the formation of scar tissue. Some skin types are more prone to scarring than others however severe acne such as cysts and nodules tend to be the main culprits in causing scars.
